Stop The Frustration
Stay Organized
Do Better Work...And Do It Faster

Course Information

Are you just beginning a dissertation or other research project and don't know what to expect?

Or maybe you don't even know where to start?

Have you gotten stuck and need help with what to focus on?

I developed this mini-course after helping dozens of graduate students to stay focused and to save them months of time on their research and writing.  It contains the 10 most important skills that I have recognized are often missing from graduate students' efforts.

In this course you will learn the importance and value of skills in two distinct areas: research and project management.  Each of the 10 skills is followed up with helpful tips to help you incorporate them into your research process.

Based on my experience of coaching and consulting doctoral students and other early career researchers, I've put together this list of 10 things that will save you a lot of time and frustration throughout your dissertation or research project.  These 10 skills are a reflection of: 1) those skills that I believe are among the most important for getting work done as efficiently and accurately as possible, and 2) those skills that I have recognized need improvement from students at the doctoral level.

There are also included quizzes at the end of both sections to help with our learning.

Learning goals upon completing this course include knowing why it is important to establish a solid foundation for your project regarding 5 Research Skills and 5 Project Management Skills.

5 Research Skills

1. Literature Search
2. Writing
3. Measures
4. Reference Management
5. Analyses

5 Project Management Skills

1. Notebook
2. Feedback
3. Friends
4. Meaningful
5. Committee

My mission is to save you days and weeks of wasted time trying to navigate the complexities of academia and academic research.

By academic training I am a Community Psychologist, earning my Ph.D. from DePaul University in Chicago in 2014.  I published several peer-reviewed research articles during my doctoral studies, and one even before beginning graduate school.

I have worked in research and academics since 2007 and taught university psychology and statistics courses at DePaul University for three years.  More recently I worked in college institutional research and for a pharma research consulting firm.  In 2018 I founded Research Learning Center, where I offer my knowledge and skills to help people just like you to produce better research and writing so that they can graduate sooner.

As of January 2021 my students include over 2,000 ambitious learners just like you from over 100 countries who speak 28 native languages.  I am thrilled to offer you these high-quality courses and look forward to having you as a student and being part of your research success.  Have questions before you get started?  Email me at todd@ResearchLearning.Center.
